Zinwave announces LTE speed test results for data downloads at Mobile World Congress

Tests demonstrate that Zinwave 4G DAS technology increases in-building coverage for advanced wireless services (AWS).

Zinwave Ltd, a global provider of active DAS technology, has recently been invited by a major Asian telecoms network supplier to assess data download and upload speeds over a captive LTE network.

The research was completed in a controlled laboratory environment over a 5-day period in November 2012. The configuration comprised a 20 MHz carrier, a remote radio head (supplied by the network supplier) and Zinwave active DAS technology connected to dual-polarised antennas. The frequency band deployed was 2600 GHz, which is expected to be the most commonly used for the provision of 4G services in Europe.

Tests were carried out on MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) and SISO (single-input-single-output) antenna systems in an in-building situation, utilising passive and active DAS technologies, to demonstrate similarities and/or differences in data download speeds.

The results confirmed that download rates over a MIMO system were almost double those over a SISO one (peaking at 126 megabytes per second compared to 63 megabytes per second) for both active and passive DAS technologies.

The results also demonstrated that average data download speeds over Zinwave’s active DAS were greater than 95% of the base-station in equivalent situations. As a result, coverage achieved using Zinwave DAS technology can be significantly higher than those achieved with passive DAS, without any of the corresponding losses in base-station capacity. Zinwave Active DAS enables coverage to be distributed to any part of a building, irrespective of the location or distance of the antenna from the base station.

The tests concluded that the deployment of LTE using Zinwave active DAS technology ensured optimised coverage at all times, regardless of building size.

The Zinwave System 3000 is the only true wideband active DAS on the market. It supports multiple services and frequencies between 150 MHz and 2700MHz on a single hardware layer, making it completely future-proof.

Zinwave’s unique service flexibility and support of FDD and TDD schemes puts it at the forefront of the DAS market, particularly in light of the breadth of frequency bands being licensed by the regulators.  The announcement of the auction results from the UK just this week is a perfect example of the need for multi-service wideband support that is offered by Zinwave

Comments Colin Abrey, President of International Sales, Zinwave: “We are delighted with the outcome of these tests. Not only have they demonstrated that there is no degradation in capacity, they have also demonstrated that active DAS technology is superior to passive DAS and is most economical way to quickly deploy 4G services in an in-building environment. This is an important factor for the provision of LTE; end users expect instant access to high speed data services, irrespective of their location, and our active DAS solution facilitates just that”.

Zinwave has recently been identified by ABI research as part of the next-generation of DAS vendors and one of the companies to watch out for as the DAS market evolves.
