Embedded Linux workshop offers quick start guide

The organisers of the 2016 UK Device Developers' Conference have announced that this year's event will include a half-day workshop entitled "The Embedded Linux Quick Start Guide", providing hands-on training for delegates wishing to explore Linux for embedded systems development.

This workshop will cover the four elements of Embedded Linux on which every project depends: toolchain, bootloader, kernel and root file system. The theory discussed will be backed up with a hands-on session using a BeagleBone Black development board

The UK Device Developers' Conference 2016 is an event for engineers and software developers working in the development of intelligent systems and devices, taking place near Cambridge on 27th and 28th April.

"This workshop will show how it’s done," said Chris Simmonds (pictured), freelance consultant and trainer. "Beginning with a blank development board, delegates will learn how to bring up Linux and how to get to a login prompt, all in half a day. All the software needed for the practical exercises will be supplied on a bootable USB flash drive, which delegates can keep for future reference."

Chris Simmonds is the author of the book “Mastering Embedded Linux Programming”, and is a frequent presenter at open source and embedded conferences, including Embedded Linux Conference, Embedded World and Android Builder's Summit. He has been running training courses and workshops in Embedded Linux since 2002 and has delivered hundreds of sessions to many well-known companies.

“We are very pleased to have Chris Simmonds presenting this workshop,” said Richard Blackburn, Conference Manager. “There is no doubt that Embedded Linux is now an important OS in the embedded space and is supported by a broad range of hardware. For engineers and computer scientists looking at Linux for a future project, this will be an invaluable opportunity to learn from Chris’ expert knowledge and real-world experience.”

Places on this workshop will be limited, so early registration is recommended. There is a charge of £75+vat for places on this workshop.

The Device Developers’ Conference will be co-located with H/WExpo, a conference for hardware developers.
