Mona founded Harry Specters in 2012, inspired by her autistic son Ash and driven by a desire to create meaningful employment for people like him. What began in her home kitchen has grown into an award-winning social enterprise that’s supported over 360 autistic individuals, all through the power of chocolate.
With a background in chocolate making and a heart for change, Mona turned a personal passion into a purpose-led business. Under her leadership, Harry Specters has won 38 chocolate awards and received the 2024 King’s Award for Enterprise for Promoting Opportunity Through Social Mobility. For Mona, it’s not just about chocolate; it’s about confidence, community, and rewriting the future for autistic talent.
Mona has just been listed in the King’s Birthday Honours, receiving an MBE for her services to Training and Employment for Young People with Autism. “I hope it sends a message that social enterprise matters, that businesses can put purpose first and still thrive. And I hope it inspires others, especially parents of autistic children, or those thinking of starting something new, to believe in the power of small beginnings.”
