Get inspired - Notice your surroundings

When travelling somewhere, try putting your phone away and actually seeing and hearing what's going on round you - it may be rather useful!

Here's a Dinky Door on Downing Street in Cambridge.

I love the creativity in this, and I'm very proud that I noticed it (even though it's probably been there for ages).

When you're walking somewhere, get off your phone and NOTICE stuff:

  • People's fashion choices: what's their persona?
  • Any wildlife: insects, birds, cats. Imagine their perspective on the here and now.
  • Sounds: conversations, alarms, the sounds you make as you move through the environment.
  • Miniatures of famous places with purple tentacles added.
  • How these things make you feel.
  • The ideas that they bring.

While noticing nice stuff is preferable, you may also notice some horrible things. Everything counts, no matter how uncomfortable it makes you feel.

Want to be creative?

  • Be present.
  • Feel every experience fully.
  • Use what you receive.

This practice isn't fluffy and detached from reality. It could hold the solution to that real-life problem you're facing.
