Mind Values Leadership (MVL), a specialist provider of coaching, leadership development and organisational consultancy, has appointed Ben Gibbs as Principal Consultant.
A highly experienced and postgrad-qualified coach, trainer and consultant, Ben grew up just outside of Cambridge in a house that was usually host to some creative engineering project or other, relating either to his dad's work as a design engineer or fixer of the neighbourhood's broken things. His career since has included business development roles in both of the city's universities and communications-focused roles in several of its technology consultancy businesses.
His focus for the last decade though has been on helping those who lead highly specialised teams - whether in education, engineering, science or health - to balance the need for due process and urgency.
This is a tension that shows up in many organisations but is a particular feature in specialised professions where there’s a critical need for rigour, safety, and systems thinking. In these contexts, process is vital. It protects quality, reduces risk and ensures that standards are met.
But very often the pressures that come from an organisation's environment don’t always wait for these processes to play out. Deadlines, customer demands, regulation, innovation goals or even the need for life-or-death decision-making demand speed. And so leaders find themselves caught in a quiet conflict: between doing it right and doing it fast.
As a coach and consultant, Ben has often found himself needing to help an individual or team navigate the sense of friction that this can cause, and avoid the problems that can occur when a balance is not struck.
This is work that MVL has been doing since it was founded in 2016, so Ben's already feeling right at home. Whilst he's already engaged in supporting MVL's clients around the UK, his location just to the north of Cambridge means he is well positioned to once more support companies in the Cambridge Network.
