Form the Future writes:
Together, we are creating a project “Addressing the Cambridge Construction Industry Skills Gap”, to provide support, experiences and opportunities for young people aged 12 to 18 in the Cambridge area.
By encouraging and facilitating CFCI members to engage with local schools, we hope to overturn preconceptions that students may have about careers in construction and open their eyes to the vast range of job roles that the industry can offer, creating a highly skilled talent pipeline for local employers.
We are also keen to share their opportunities in work experience and apprenticeships, which may provide the stepping stone that a young person may need to get started in the world of work.
We are inviting CFCI members to volunteer at our careers and skills events as well as take part in special EcoHub days in 8 schools. These unique events will enable the volunteers to act as mentors and judges whilst we challenge students to design eco classrooms – a sustainable learning space designed to improve the local community’s knowledge of conservation. The EcoHub events will be hosted alongside Class of Your Own, who run the Design Engineer Construct training programme.
Getting involved with “Addressing the Cambridge Construction Industry Skills Gap” will provide construction professionals with an opportunity to improve their skills and abilities, whilst inspiring their future employees and colleagues.
