From midday on 22 June until 5pm on 29 June, donations to local charity Blue Smile will be doubled, so every £1 has twice the impact in funding support for children’s mental health in schools across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
Blue Smile is one of 257 small charities selected to take part in the Big Give Small Charity Week campaign, which celebrates the vital role small charities play in strengthening communities across the UK.
The Cambridge-based charity aims to raise £3500 during the week, which would be doubled by the Postcode Places Trust to make £7000 – enough to fund 175 1-1 therapy sessions for children in primary schools across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
Anne Kent-Taylor, Blue Smile’s Charity Director, says:
“We’re really excited to be taking part in the Big Give Small Charity Week again this year. Like many small charities, we’re facing really high demand for our help at the moment and it can be hard to meet the need in a tough financial climate – we rely on donations to fund our work and we know many people are having to cut back. So the fact that every pound will be doubled is a fantastic opportunity!
“In particular, the funds raised in Small Charity Week will help us expand our work in the north of Cambridgeshire - in and around Peterborough, Wisbech and March – as well as continuing our support in the poorest areas of Cambridge city. Although anyone can experience mental health problems, we know that people living in poorer communities and rural areas are at higher risk and less likely to be able to access support.”
Blue Smile therapists provide specialist support to children aged 3-13 who are struggling with issues like anxiety, grief or low self-esteem. Through individual and small-group support, the charity helps over 400 children each year to enjoy happier childhoods and build brighter futures.
To make double the difference for children’s mental health, visit Blue Smile’s campaign page – between 12pm on Monday 22 June and 5pm on Monday 29 June, every £1 donated will be doubled!
