Chris Jenkin, Chair, and Lee Welham, a trustee and well known presence on the streets of Cambridge through his work coordinating Big Issue vendors, joined Lewis Herbert for the second of his Cambridge Challenges series on Cambridge 105 radio.

Lewis firstly spoke to James McWilliams from the City Council’s Housing Advice Service about the current situation in the city and how high accommodation costs can leave many struggling to get off the streets. James also detailed how the Council were using Rough Sleeper Initiative funding to expand the range of housing options and provide services better tailored to individual needs.

Lee spoke about his own experiences of trying to navigate a system that often seemed disjointed and confusing, especially for those with addiction and/or mental health issues. He was very positive about the modular homes appearing around the city, seeing them as a vital component in helping break the spiral that many find themselves in.

Chris outlined our plans for the next few years, supporting the development of more sites for modular homes and providing a wrap around package of support from the community to help those on their journey from street to home.
