- Specialist innovation real estate platform Mission Street and investor BGO agree two new lettings totalling 15,000 sq ft with battery technology company HoriZn and biotech Syndex Bio
- Signings bring the first phase of The Press, Mission Street’s pioneering lab and office conversion of a former printing works in Foxton, Cambridge, to fully occupied
- Lettings secured shortly after opening of Cambridge South station, providing access to the Biomedical Campus within an 8-minute direct train
Mission Street, a specialist investor, developer and operator for the science and innovation sectors, and BGO, a leading global real estate investment manager, have signed leading battery technology and biotech companies HoriZn and Syndex Bio at The Press in Foxton, Cambridge.
The two leases, totalling 15,000 sq ft, bring the first phase of the 100,000 sq ft science and innovation campus to fully occupied, underscoring growing demand for high-quality, purpose-built lab and office space in the heart of the Cambridge Southern Cluster.
Founded in 2013, HoriZn (trading name of Superdielectrics Group plc) develops clean battery storage technologies using advanced polymers derived from contact lens material. Led by CEO Jane Hunter, the firm is relocating from Chesterford Research Park, taking 10,000 sq ft to further commercialise its water-based zinc battery systems, which have both commercial and industrial applications.
Syndex Bio uses their patented mcPCR technology to improve early disease detection and recurrence monitoring. The company was established in 2022 by Geoff Smith, previously Global Head of Technology Development at the genomics giant Illumina. After closing its oversubscribed seed financing round in February 2025, Syndex Bio is expanding by an additional 5,000 sq ft on-site having quadrupled their headcount since moving to The Press 18 months ago.
Together, both companies will occupy the remaining lab and workspace units available in The Burlington, the conversion of the original Edwardian printing press first constructed in 1909.
Artem Korolev, Founder & CEO of Mission Street, said:
“We are excited to welcome HoriZn to The Press and to support Syndex Bio’s expansion. These moves support the thesis of The Press being the best-connected location in the South Cambridge Cluster and builds on the wider market momentum including GSK’s re-location to the Biomedical Campus, accessible from the Press via an 8 minute direct train.
Our wider campus, including a new café opening, has recently completed, providing a high-quality environment suitable for a range of innovation uses from new-build fitted labs through to Mid-Tech; we look forward to welcoming our next occupiers”
Jane Hunter, CEO of HoriZn, said:
“I am delighted to lead HoriZn through this exciting phase as the company starts to deploy batteries with customers for testing in preparation for building out a pilot production line. Our expertise in polymer science has led to a timely breakthrough for the battery industry, enabling novel battery chemistries to address gaps that lithium-ion cannot meet. The HoriZn team is scaling the business and technology at pace as we work to make our unique battery commercially available in time to meet this market need.”
Geoff Smith, Founder & CEO of Syndex Bio, said:
“Our mcPCR technology has made fantastic progress in the last 18 months, and we are delighted to be able to expand our footprint at The Press in Foxton to accommodate our next phase of growth.”
