New directors bring fresh perspectives to Cambridge Network Board

In the continuing cycle of refreshing points of view, Cambridge Network has welcomed a number of new directors to its Board.

Caroline Rowland (pictured above), Global People Services Director at ARM, steps in to the shoes of ARM’s retired HR Director Bill Parsons, who was a co-founder of Cambridge Network’s Learning Collaboration and has served on the Cambridge Network Board for more than 12 years, including a year as its Chair.  Caroline, who previously undertook a variety of different HR roles at Diageo, the world's largest drinks company, leads a talented team of HR Business Partners, HR Managers and HR shared services to manage the strategic and tactical deployment of HR activities across ARM.

Joining the Board for the first time is a representative from AstraZeneca, the pharmaceutical company that is building its new global headquarters in Cambridge.

This includes working with Cambridge and national stakeholders to develop the local infrastructure, promoting the life sciences sector and inspiring the next generation of scientists through MedImmune and AstraZeneca extensive local community outreach activities.

Andy has been an active contributor to evolving Cambridge’s thinking in areas such as skills development, transport, amenities for the community and affordable housing. Having overseen the growth of AstraZeneca’s Cambridge community, significant learning from this experience has fostered understanding of what Cambridge has to offer and needs.

Previously Andy has held a number of positions within the MedImmune organisation, including Site General Manager for MedImmune in Cambridge and Global Vice President, Research Project & Portfolio Management.

Andy joined MedImmune, formerly Cambridge Antibody Technology (CAT), in 1993 as a Senior Scientist and quickly took on a number of increasingly senior roles within CAT prior to its integration into MedImmune in 2007.

Lee is a partner in the Cambridge office with 14 years’ experience in serving a range of businesses in the FTSE, AIM and high growth private market sectors.

He has worked with some of the largest and most exciting technology companies and is very familiar with the commercial, operational and financial topics faced by businesses in this industry.

Lee leads the Deloitte Equity Capital Markets group in Cambridge, which provides a range of services to companies with an aspiration to IPO.  He has led and been involved in all major areas of capital markets work, including acquisition due diligence, reporting accountant work and demerger projects.

Dr Andy Harter, Chair of Cambridge Network, said:"I am delighted to welcome these new Cambridge Network board members, who add further strength and experience to our existing board.  The board plays a vital role in shaping the strategy of the Network as it continues to grow and develop its range of member-centric initiatives, and I look forward to working with them.”

Earlier this year the Board made two further appointments.  Professor Nigel Slater, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Enterprise and Regional Affairs at the University of Cambridge, took over the seat of Professor Lynn Gladden, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, who had served on the Network’s Board for five years. Nigel is the 1999 Professor of Chemical Engineering and the former Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology. He is also a member of the Greater Cambridge City Deal Board and the board of Cambridge Enterprise Ltd.

Following the retirement of Anglia Ruskin University's Vice Chancellor, Professor Michael Thorne, its representative on the Board is the new Vice Chancellor, Professor Iain Martin.  Former Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, Iain was previously Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences and Deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Auckland, New Zealand and brings new insights as Cambridge Network helps to develop skills of the Cambridgeshire community.
