Volunteer to make a difference and inspire young people

Could you spare some time to inspire young people and help them learn about career opportunities?  Form the Future – whose mission is to connect young people to a world of career possibilities, inspire them to dream big and empower them to fulfil their potential – is looking for volunteers from local companies to assist with its events.

Form the Future connects entrepreneurs and employers with schools and delivers careers-related advice and events – covering elements like employability, careers awareness and confidence building.

Cambridge Network members are encouraged to get involved. In these stressful times for many businesses, it may be that volunteering and giving back to the future generation can play a small part in helping people to feel better about themselves, improve their mental health and feel they are making a difference.

Sue Walden of Form the Future says:“We are always needing individuals to support and volunteer for our new online events in schools using Teams or Zoom due to current restrictions.

“We run a range of different events depending on the cohort of students we are working with.”

Volunteers are sought for events including

Mock Interviews – generally run with Year 11 students, we offer a 15-minute Mock Interview for students before they go on a work experience placement or apply for a college.  Some of the dates include:

Bottisham Village College – 5 and 12 January 2021 (9:00am-12noon)

Coleridge – 11 January 2021 (9:00am-11:00am)

Sawston Village College – 18 January 2021 (9:00am-12noon)

Cambourne VC – 4 February 2021 (1.20pm-2.10pm)

Careers Carousel – generally with Year 8 students, as a volunteer you would spend 15 minutes with a group of students and would give an overview of your career ie  what you do, how you got there (specifics about your route-in), what skills you needed to succeed, etc.  The idea is that the students see four to five different volunteers during the course of the session.  The dates are:

Swavesey Village College on 3 December 2020 (1:45-3:00)

Sawston Village College on 22 February 2021 (9:00-11:00)

Netherhall School on 22 March 2021 (we will be running a morning and afternoon session)

What’s My Line? is an event for Year 7 students.  The idea is that they ask a series of questions to try and guess what the volunteer does for a job.  Once they have guessed, the volunteer talks in more detail about their role, how they got into it, what they like about it etc.  The upcoming dates are:

Bottisham Village College on 6 and 13 January 2021 (11:25am-12:25pm)

Chesterton Community College on 20 January 2021 (9:00am-11:00am)

North Cambridge Academy – 11 February 2021 (11:00am-12:30pm))

To get involved, volunteers need to register on Form the Future's event portal.  It only takes a few minutes to sign up via this link.

Once you are registered, you will be able to add your name to any of the events listed.
