Explore UK–Japan community currency innovation, linking local resilience, digital finance and future partnership opportunities

A UK–Japan engagement programme is being developed to explore community currency as a tool for local economic resilience, digital innovation and social value creation.

Led by Japanese innovation companies, including Global Communication Planning, Good Money Lab and Transaction Media Networks, the initiative will present practical community currency models and the wider concept of vector money.

The programme will also create a platform for Japanese companies interested in establishing partnerships and developing business opportunities in the UK. At the same time, it will offer UK businesses and organisations the opportunity to explore the Japanese market through collaboration with these companies.

A webinar on 30 July 2026 at 12:00 noon BST will introduce the opportunity, followed by an in-person Cambridge workshop on 23 October 2026. Registration

Selected UK organisations in fintech, payment infrastructure, civic innovation and digital transformation are invited to register their interest and explore future collaboration, pilot projects, partnership models and routes into both the UK and Japanese markets. The invitation is also open to university faculty members, researchers and students with an interest in community currencies, as well as representatives and researchers from government, banks, think tanks, non-profit organisations, civil society groups and members of the wider public.
