Chief Animal Technician

Applications are invited for a motivated and experienced Chief Animal Technician to be part of a hard working team in a busy University Biomedical Service facility situated in south Cambridge.

As a member of a hard working team you will support the Biosciences Manager and Deputy Biofacility Manager with the daily operation of the barrier with a particular focus on providing technical support to researchers and technicians within the facility; undertaking regulated and non-regulated procedures as well as daily husbandry and animal welfare tasks. This will include the use of IVC technology, and maintenance of all necessary records.

The role holder will also support the Biosciences Manager and Deputy Biofacility Managers in the daily coordination and supervision of technicians including daily supervision and oversight of the team carrying out daily care routines, training and assessment of new and existing staff, and supporting staff reviews.

You will have experience working in a designated with laboratory animals and using IVC's and you should have a Home Office Personal Licence (Modules A ¿ C) with up to date experience carrying out procedural work including regulated procedures. You will have good communication skills, able to work both independently and as part of a team, with experience supervising staff. You will have IAT Level 2 or equivalent (as a minimum), and be able to demonstrate in depth experience of relevant legislation, guidelines and animal technician work practices. You must be able to use a computerised data management system.

The facility operates a rota system to provide animal care and essential husbandry at weekends and over Bank Holidays.
