The games undoubtedly brought in a lot business through tourism, but productivity decreased a significant amount during the games particularly on the jobs market.
There was a 30 per cent decrease in the number of job applicants in August 2012 compared with the same month last year. Figures show that on average 138 applications were received per job vacancy this August compared to 198 the year before. Even though it is not a surprise there has been a drop on applications during the games, as summer can be slower period for the job market anyway, 30% is a fairly dramatic and significant decrease.
With applications on the rise, it looks like the job market for 2013 is going to be at an all time high. Now the games being over, the amount of applications for job vacancies is expected to increase, as employees get back to work after a busy summer period. This is the perfect chance for marketers to begin thinking about their careers.
