The HandleBards will perform ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ at the beautiful Childerley Hall on Sunday 15 September from 2-5pm.
The HandleBards carry all their set, props and costumes on their bicycles as they tour the country performing Shakesphere. Sustainability and accessibility are at the centre of the HandleBards mission. They specialise in outdoor theatre and perform extremely energetic, quirky and interactive Shakespeare which all ages can enjoy. Paul Moss, the HandleBards producer, said “We’re so excited to be ending this year’s tour at the Cambridge Festival of Cycling, in the gorgeous Childerley. We’ve clocked up 1,500 miles of cycling this year, so ending in a big cycling celebration is very fitting.”
The doors will open at 2pm and guests can bring a picnic and wander around the lovely Childerley Hall garden before the performance starts at 3pm. Attendees are advised to bring blankets and cushions to sit on to watch the performance. Some chairs will be available for members of the audience who are unable to sit on the grass. Childerley will be running a cash bar and Beanissimo will also be there selling tea and coffee from their environmentally-friendly cargo bike.
For those who fancy a leisurely cycle out to Childerley Hall, Camcycle will supply a suggested route on their website here. There should be plenty of time to cycle back in the light. There is both cycle and car parking available at Childerley. Jocelyn Poulton, a partner in Childerley Estates, said “Shakespeare, gardens, bicycles, picnics - a perfect combination. Childerley is very excited to welcome the innovative and energetic Handlebards. And don’t worry if it rains: the show will go on in the Long Barn.”
Tickets can be bought on the HandleBards website with more information on the festival website. Join Camcycle for an afternoon full of fun, laughter and spontaneity.
Roxanne De Beaux, Camcycle’s Executive Director, said “We are really glad that the HandleBards managed to fit the Cambridge Festival of Cycling into their busy tour. It will be a fantastic chance to see these wonderful actors who set such a good example to us all with their sustainable principles and playful approach to life.”
