Accessing the Cloud: Find the network connectivity for your business

Seamless network connectivity and access to cloud-based applications are essential for daily operations in the modern workplace. As businesses increasingly rely on cloud computing to streamline operations, the importance of a reliable network connectivity cannot be overstated. Cambridge Support will examine the various aspects of network connectivity and help your business find the right solution to access the cloud effectively.

What is Cloud Computing?

Cloud computing has transformed the way businesses manage their IT infrastructure by offering a scalable and cost-effective alternative to traditional systems.

“Cloud computing is the delivery of computing services—including servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics, and intelligence—over the internet (“the cloud”) to offer faster innovation, flexible resources, and economies of scale”

Microsoft Azure

By accessing the cloud, businesses can benefit from increased productivity, flexible resource allocation, and reduced operational costs. Unlike traditional IT setups that require significant upfront investments in hardware and infrastructure, cloud services allow businesses to pay only for what they use, offering a cost-efficient and scalable solution.

Benefits for Businesses

Cloud computing can provide several benefits for businesses of any size. One of the most significant advantages is cost savings. By migrating to the cloud, businesses can eliminate the need for costly hardware investments, as well as the expenses associated with maintaining and managing on-site infrastructure. As well as this, cloud services enable businesses to instantly increase or decrease their computing capacity based on demand. Whether facing sudden spikes in traffic or seasonal fluctuations, businesses can easily adjust their resources to accommodate changing needs, ensuring uninterrupted operations.

Cloud computing can also offer flexibility, allowing businesses to tailor their IT solutions to meet specific requirements. Businesses have the freedom to design a solution that aligns with their needs. The cloud enables remote access to data and applications, promoting collaboration and productivity.

Internet speed is a crucial factor for any business, allowing organisations to streamline their operations. Cloud service providers continually update their technology to deliver high-performance solutions to ensure high performance to meet the needs of modern businesses. Whether it’s processing large volumes of data, running complex analytics, or delivering real-time services, the cloud provides the performance and scalability businesses need.

Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC):

FTTC is a connectivity option that uses a combination of fibre optic and copper cables to deliver broadband services. Fibre optic cable is in place from a local telephone exchange to a distribution point (roadside cabinet). From here, standard telephone line (copper) is used to deliver broadband connectivity.

With speeds of up to 80 Mbps, FTTC offers a cost-effective solution for businesses with moderate bandwidth requirements. However, its asymmetrical upload/download speeds and reliance on copper cables may limit its suitability for businesses with high-speed or symmetrical connectivity needs.

Fibre to the Premises (FTTP):

FTTP provides businesses with a direct fibre connection to their premises, offering reliable and high-speed connectivity with symmetrical upload/download speeds. Unlike FTTC, which relies on copper cables, FTTP uses fibre optic cables throughout, helping to lower latency and improve performance. While installation costs may be higher due to the need for fibre infrastructure, the long-term benefits of FTTP make it a compelling choice for businesses seeking fast and dependable connectivity.

Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL):

ADSL is a technology that delivers internet connectivity over standard copper telephone lines. While widely available and relatively easy to install, ADSL has limited speeds and bandwidth compared to fibre-based alternatives. As copper cables are phased out in favour of fibre optics, ADSL may become less viable for businesses moving forward.

Leased Line:

A leased line provides businesses with a dedicated and symmetrical internet connection, offering guaranteed bandwidth and reliability. By leasing a private fibre line, businesses can ensure consistent performance and low latency, even during peak times. While the initial installation costs of a leased line may be higher than other connectivity options, the long-term benefits may justify the investment for some businesses.

Software-Defined Wide Area Networking (SD-WAN):

SD-WAN is a modern networking technology that improves the performance, security, and scalability of wide area networks (WANs). By utilising software-defined networking (SDN) principles, SD-WAN simplifies network management and optimisation, reducing costs and improving efficiency. With features such as zero-touch provisioning, centralised management, and advanced security functionalities, SD-WAN offers businesses a future-proof solution for managing their network infrastructure. At Cambridge Support, we offer the latest Cisco Meraki SD-WAN technology.
