Organisers of Cambridge’s best-loved annual community walk through University Colleges, Bridge the Gap, have revealed the route for this year’s event taking place on Sunday 13 September.
The family-friendly ‘Bridge the Gap walk’ follows a new route each year, through the city and Colleges of the University of Cambridge. The walk, beginning and ending on the city’s historic Parker’s Piece in the centre of Cambridge, has taken place each year since 2001 and supports two great local charities, Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and Romsey Mill.
The unique route, new for this year’s event, will take walkers behind the gates and into the grounds of six University of Cambridge colleges. The Bridge the Gap organisers have revealed the Colleges that will feature on this year’s route: Jesus College(opens in new tab), St John’s College(opens in new tab), Trinity College(opens in new tab), Queens’ College(opens in new tab), Gonville and Caius College(opens in new tab) and Downing College(opens in new tab).
Registrations for the annual ‘Bridge the Gap’ charity walk have been open for just over a month and more than 600 walkers have already purchased their tickets online.
Tickets are available at arhc.org.uk/btg. Adults are £22.50 in advance (£25 on the day) and up to three under-16s can enjoy the walk with every paying adult.
The 25th Bridge the Gap walk, which took place last year, hosted nearly 2,200 walkers, helping to raise a record £63,000, shared equally by Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and Romsey Mill, the event’s two charity partners. Event organisers are hopeful that this year’s event will surpass those numbers.
Since 2001, over 52,000 walkers have helped to raise more than £750,000 for local charities. The Cambridge Building Society(opens in new tab) has been announced as headline sponsor for Bridge the Gap 2026, continuing its long association with the event. Peter Burrows, Chief Executive Officer at The Cambridge Building Society, said:
“We are delighted to be Bridge the Gap’s headline sponsor for the 18th year. Bridge the Gap continues to be a key fixture in the Cambridge Building Society calendar.
We expect to have dozens of our team members helping out and walking the route again this year and I encourage people from across the region to join us to help raise vital funds for these brilliant charities.”
Arthur Rank Hospice Charity’s Chief Executive, Sharon Allen, said:
“We are really excited about Bridge the Gap 2026 and look forward to welcoming everyone on the day. They will all enjoy a great walk through the beautiful College grounds and help raise vital funds for two well-loved local charities.
There will also be music on the route and after the walk, with opportunities for younger walkers to complete a Treasure Hunt and a cake tent, with wonderful homemade treats.”
Neil Perry, Chief Executive at Romsey Mill, said:
“Bridge the Gap is always a fantastic event, bringing together local people, businesses, and community groups for a great day out, supporting two fantastic local causes.
The route for this year’s event is full of highlights and surprises, contributing to what will be a memorable experience for everyone taking part.”
