Connected medical devices promise great benefits for patients, family members, doctors, and others. They can provide timely reminders, peer support, training, reduced costs or clinical trial data. However, they also have many risks. This webinar will explore some of the risks associated with connected devices.

Today’s speaker, Tom Oakley, Director of Drug Delivery Device Development at Springboard, will summarise the main risks and give examples of real-world solutions, covering:

  • Unrealistic expectations

  • Usability (human factors)

  • Risks to critical functions

  • Hacking and malware

  • Data silos

  • Regulatory issues

  • Business models

  • Security of supply

  • Environmental impact

About Tom: Tom leads engineering and scientific teams developing new injection devices, pumps and inhalers. He has been the named inventor on dozens of patents throughout his 20 years' experience in industry.  He is a regular speaker at international conferences on innovation and medical device development, and mentors Engineering and MBA students on at the Cambridge University Engineering Department and the Judge Business School.  He read Engineering at Cambridge University before becoming the Choate Fellow in Human Physiology and Pathology at Harvard University.
