The charity is particularly delighted that plans will include significant investments at Jesus Green Lido, which has been at the heart of swimming in Cambridge for more than 100 years.
Commenting, Trustees of The Friends of Jesus Green Lido, said: “Over the past century, Jesus Green Lido has become much more than a place to swim. It’s a cherished part of the city’s heritage, a place where generations of families have made memories, and a unique space that brings people together through a shared love of outdoor swimming.
“As the lido enters its second century, there is a tremendous opportunity to build on this remarkable legacy and realise its full potential as a vibrant and accessible destination for swimmers of all ages. During its previous tenure, the team at GLL / Better worked tirelessly to encourage greater use of the lido and help more people discover the many benefits and enjoyment of cold-water swimming – for which we are grateful.
“As a charity committed to championing the lido and its swimming community, we have an important role to play in ensuring the views, experiences and aspirations of swimmers are heard and reflected in decisions about its future. This is a significant moment for swimming in the city, and the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the lido. By working together, we have an opportunity to celebrate and protect everything that makes it special, while ensuring that the next 100 years of outdoor swimming are safeguarded for future generations.
“Looking ahead, we are genuinely excited about the prospect of investment at the lido and the positive changes this could bring. Over the coming months we will be working closely with GLL / Better and the City Council’s Leisure team to understand more about their ambitions and the specific proposals for the lido. We look forward to engaging constructively together as plans take shape and as a public consultation commences.”
