University Arms , Cambridge is set to bring a touch of miniature magic to the table this May, with the debut of a brand-new Dinky Doors Afternoon Tea at Parker's Tavern, created in partnership with Dinky Doors, Cambridge's beloved public art trail of hand crafted miniature doors hidden in unexpected spots across the city.
The trail has long captured the imagination of locals and visitors alike, with its intricate craftsmanship and spirit of discovery. That same sense of wonder now finds its way into an imaginative dining experience suitable for all ages.
At the heart of the menu is Head Pastry Chef Murat Ugur, whose team has crafted a collection of exquisitely detailed miniature cakes and sweet treats, each one drawing inspiration from a specially selected Dinky Door found sprinkled across Cambridge. Refined patisserie meets playful storytelling, with interactive touches and nods to the city's rich history woven throughout.
Among the standout creations are the Ride and Park sweet treat, a strawberry and lime tart with roasted kataifi for a delicate crunch and the inspired Emailator, a mango and passion fruit chocolate délice encased in dark chocolate. Classic freshly baked plain and raisin scones, served with homemade strawberry jam and clotted cream, round off the experience with a timeless touch.
Murat describes the process: "Each cake is a real labour of love. The Emailator alone takes around 4–5 hours — the mango and passion fruit insert is prepped and frozen first, then we add the mousse, freeze again, dip each piece individually and finish with a baked sablé base and final decoration. No. 10 Downing Street takes 3–4 hours, and the Ride and Park around 2–3."
The experience doesn't stop at the table. Families are invited to extend the adventure with colouring maps, a treasure hunt feel and keepsake touches that transform afternoon tea into a full day of Cambridge exploration.
