ARM gives local students insight into electronics

Twenty students from six different schools and colleges across Cambridge got hands-on experience of programming and electronic engineering at ARM. The day was run by university students on placements at ARM, mainly through the UK Electronics Skills Foundation scholarship programme.

The event was designed to give students some insight and knowledge into electrical engineering to see if it’s an area they might want to work in after school. It was also a lot of fun as students competed in teams to program devices, including a robot car race.

Students were highly enthusiastic. One student commented:  “The workshops were balanced and the activities were enjoyable as well as being well organised. Prizes at the end were a good incentive and greatly appreciated.”

Crispin Semmons, student relations engineer at ARM said: “It’s really important for the knowledge industry to engage with the young people coming through the education system now, and to raise the profile of STEM subjects, so it’s great to be able to take advantage of opportunities like this one from CAP. Everyone involved seemed to be engaged and interested, and I think we were able to communicate something of the reward and challenge of engineering in the UK.”
