Babel: Saudi National Day 2019

Saudi National Day is celebrated today (September 23) to commemorate the renaming of the Kingdom of Nejd and Hejaz to Saudi Arabia by a royal decree from King Abdul Aziz Ibn Saud in 1932.  In 2005 King Abdullah acknowledged that Saudi National Day became an official holiday in the kingdom.  

2019 will be the country's 89th celebration and this year the Saudi Ministry of Civil Service have announced a four-day holiday which will start by the end of working hours on Thursday September 19 and work will be resumed on Tuesday September 24.  The length of public holiday is declared each year.  

Saudi National Day is celebrated with folklore dances, songs and traditional festivals and in some regions, concerts, fireworks and forums with international speakers. The roads and buildings are decorated with Saudi flags and people favour green dress to lend harmony to the celebrations.
