Back to school for Mobas on BIMA’s D-Day

A team from creative agency Mobas headed to Long Road Sixth Form College in Cambridge yesterday (Weds) as part of D-Day, a UK-wide initiative to encourage young people to consider careers in digital marketing.

Run by the British Interactive Media Association (BIMA), D-Day, or Digital Day, aims to help inspire the next generation of digital experts by linking professional agencies with the local community. A recent report estimated that the UK needs a staggering 750,000 digitally skilled workers within the British economy by 2017 and of these, 200,000 will be from the younger market.

This is the second year that Mobas has been involved and working with students from Long Road Sixth Form College. This year teams of students were tasked with creating a mobile app that can be used for social good within the local community. Mobas worked alongside teaching staff to brief and support the teams of students in the development of their apps. The finished articles included an app that helped the police with neighbourhood crimes, a learning tool app and an app for cyclists.

Mobas offers expertise across the marketing spectrum and is seeing an increasing demand for its digital services, covering everything from online PR and social media campaigns to apps and responsive websites.

Robin Bryant, Managing Director at Mobas, said: “It’s good to strengthen our links with organisations in the community, particularly if we can encourage new and fresh talent into our exciting industry. Our relationship with Long Road is mutually beneficial, since attending D-day last year we have conducted focus groups and tested advertising concepts among its students for our client that sells cars and insurance to young drivers. This is the second year that we’ve worked with Long Road for D-Day and the team were impressed with the students’ great ideas”.
