The award offers learners the opportunity to gain basic computer skills such as how to get online, do internet searches, use email and an introduction to the basic computer skills required for employment.
It features an engaging interactive learning system that remembers a learner's progress, helping them advance at a comfortable pace, perfect for distance and blended learning. The award will be delivered across the UK by BCS accredited centres across and has entry level funding from The Skills Funding Agency.
The new award is part of the Institute's drive to enable the information society and ensure that people understand the importance of digital skills.
Skills Minister Matthew Hancock recently observed: “The modern world and workforce is becoming increasingly dependent on the internet, yet there are still 11 million people in the UK without basic digital skills. If we are to compete in the global race then we must have an IT and digitally literate population.”
The new award will complement the Institute's existing range of qualifications including the popular European Computer Driving Licence through which 2.5 million people in the UK have learned IT skills.
