Big numbers expected for The Big Weekend

Thousands of people are expected to descend on Parker’s Piece, Cambridge, for the extravaganza which is The Big Weekend (Friday 8 – Sunday 10 July). The theme for the free event this year is Health and Wellbeing.

Starting with a cascade of dazzling fireworks on the Friday evening, The Big Weekend attracts record numbers of people to the city and features performances from show-stopping artists, delighting crowds throughout the weekend.

Come along to enjoy a range of activities including games, science and sports workshops, face painting, storytelling, pop-up art gallery, French market, food stalls and much more.

While a Health & Wellbeing Village on the site (Saturday 9th July only) celebrates 250 years of Addenbrooke's Hospital, a Get Active zone, also on Saturday (12-5pm) offers free fitness for all, with activities including:

  • Roller skating with free skate hire on a dedicated mobile rink
  • Bouldering along a large mobile wall
  • Table Tennis in a dedicated “Ping Pong Parlour”
  • Short tennis, provided by ParkTennis
  • Bike trail with rollers, tables and beams to experience, plus free use of “jump bikes”
  • Football opportunities with coaching skills provided from Cambridge United Trust and Cambridgeshire FA using a dedicated inflatable pitch.

In celebration of this year’s Rio Olympics, children are also invited to take part in a “mini Olympic challenge” to win a free prize!

Traditionally the weekend is brought to a close with a day of world music and dance celebrating ethnic diversity within Cambridge and of course the hugely popular Cambridge Mela, Cambridge's summer celebration of Asian Culture.

The Big Weekend is provided by Cambridge City Council and organised by Cambridge Live.
