Bigger than data - discover or die?

Life science giants Novartis, Roche and Bayer are attending a high level Cambridge symposium hosted by Eagle Genomics next month, debating the role of big data in the sector.

The symposium is being held March 27th at Babraham Research Campus but demand for places is already strong.

Eagle, which provides bioinformatics software and services across a wide range of the life science and other sectors, has just confirmed speakers for what will be its fourth symposium.

Over the past five years, the bioinformatics community has been significantly occupied with processing and management of the data deluge. Once processed, however, these data must start earning their keep. Bioinformaticians are now rethinking data-driven experiments that reinforce past knowledge, address present research, and generate future hypotheses. To do all three at once is the ultimate goal. The challenge comes in two parts: physically connecting silos of data for effective mining, and making sense of the various experimental datasets available by analysing their metadata.

This one-day event will showcase available solutions from the bioinformatics community and demonstrate some real-life examples of how the challenge has been overcome in industry.
