'Into boundless space I leap': open day at the new Maxwell Centre

Explore new architecture, science, art and dance and celebrate the opening of the Maxwell Centre this Saturday (9 April 2016).

 

The Maxwell Centre is a new building for pioneering scientific research and industrial partnership in the University of Cambridge, inspired by the remarkable physicist James Clerk Maxwell.

Drop in between 11am-4pm to explore the new Maxwell building and the art exhibition Into Boundless Space I Leap.

From 11.30am there will be a unique opportunity to see the specially commissioned live dance and sound work by leading choreographer Wayne McGregor and artist Haroon Mirza, which will be performed at regular intervals throughout the day.

From 11.45am to 15.30pm – enjoy regular 20 minute tours of the new laboratory, architecture of the building and the Cavendish Museum. Sign up on the day.

From 12pm – see 3D printing demonstration and take part in drop in workshops.

From 12.30-13.30pm and 14.30-15.30pm – hear bite-sized talks from scientists, curators and artists, giving a snapshot of their projects in eight minutes.

How to get there:
The Maxwell Centre is a ten minute cycle ride or a 35 minute walk from the city centre and is on the Citi 4 bus route, the bus stops on JJ Thomson Avenue. Free parking is available in Car Park 8 at the end of Charles Babbage Road. Parking is also available at Madingley Road Park and Ride, which is a ten minute walk away.
