Business and IT students pick up hatful of awards

Cambridge Regional College business students picked up a hatful of awards in a day of WorldSkills UK competitions – returning with second place, two thirds and a highly commended.

The four students, studying IT and Business Administration, had their skills and knowledge put to the test in a demanding series of tasks at the competition in Portsmouth.

IT student Jack Davies, 20, won third place in the Cisco Network Technician competition after rigorous tests in installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting ICT networks.

And three Advanced Business Administration students, Jessica Gungadin, Natalia Krakowska and Sophie Warden, were also successful, with Jessica, 17, winning second place, Natalia, 19, third and Sophie, 18, highly commended.

The competition tested their in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office software and accuracy, knowledge and time management skills.

Business and IT tutor Catherine Lock said the students had done very well.

“This was the first time we had entered students in the Business Administration competition and I was very impressed with them. The standard of competition was very high and the competitors were pushed hard, but they all did extremely well,” she said.

Jack’s tutor, Pete Lawrence, said he was very proud of him. “He is just a first year student and had to compete against far more advanced students, but was outstanding,” he said. “It was a tough competition and the results were very close.”
