Cambridge Solar was crowned winner of the prestigious British Renewable Energy Installer of the Year 2018 on Thursday at the Renewable Energy Association Awards in London.
“The emphasis on high quality, reliable, productive installations shone through in their application,” said Virginia Graham, a 2018 judge and Chief Executive of the REAL Assurance Scheme, adding that they are “clearly a company that place customer satisfaction at the heart of their operations.”
“There are thousands of renewable energy installers operating in the UK, so to have been selected by the judges as British Renewable Energy Installer 2018 is a huge achievement for us,” says Owen Morgan, founder and MD at Cambridge Solar. “I am deeply proud of our team and the work we do, and I’m pleased to be recognised by industry experts for our commitment to quality and excellent customer service.”
The company is celebrating a rewarding series of accomplishments. In April, it won Best Solar PV Installer at the East of England Energy Efficiency Awards, and was also recognised at the Cambridgeshire SME Business Awards for Service Excellence. In May, the team completed a solar installation as part of a roof renovation at Great St Mary’s Church in central Cambridge, which is due to be blessed by the Bishop of Huntingdon at a service on 8 July.
Founded in 2009 and based at the Future Business Centre on Kings Hedges Rd, Cambridge Solar Ltd designs and installs solar photovoltaic (PV) energy systems for a wide breadth of clients. In addition to Great St Mary’s Church, the team has installed solar panels on nearly 400 sites across the east of England and Wales, ranging from all manner of homes and community centres to the kitchen at Crucial Cuisine catering, and the new Deanta facility in Ely. Combined, these have a peak capacity of 1.45 million Watts---for comparison, a microwave uses about 800 Watts, and an LED light bulb uses just 8 Watts.
The 2018 British REA Awards judges included: Dr Alan Whitehead, MP; the Chief Executive of the Energy Saving Trust; the Chief Scientist of Greenpeace UK; the Director of UK100; professors in related fields; and industry leaders. The ceremony was held at the Savoy in London, where London Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy Shirley Rodrigues gave the keynote address, and news anchor Cathy Newman presented the awards.
