Cambridge student shortlisted for 'Women of the Future' award

A philanthropic young Cambridge student is among the outstanding women shortlisted for the 2013 Women of the Future Awards, in association with Shell.

Ritika Dave, a student at Cambridge’s Judge Business School, has been shortlisted for the MBA Star Award. A former clinician and researcher, Ritika has an unusually broad perspective on the world of medicine. Her vision is for a world without cancer and she is striving to develop its cure whilst providing accessible, affordable care for all.

Supported by patron Cherie Blair, the Women of the Future Awards have recognised many ground-breaking women over their eight-year history, including television presenter and writer Dawn Porter, doctor-turned-entrepreneurial founder of MediKidz, Kate Hersov, and founder of Nails Inc, Thea Green.

The Women of the Future Awards were founded by Pinky Lilani OBE in 2006, and are supported by Shell. The mission of the awards is to unearth the next generation of high-flying women aged 35 and under who are excelling in business, the arts, science, technology and the professions.

Cherie Blair, patron of the awards, said: “Awards like this are vital as we work towards a world where women have equal opportunities, because we simply won’t get there unless we celebrate the achievements of women here and now. The awards give a platform to women whose own achievements show exactly why women with talent must be given the same opportunities as talented men.   Celebrating these women will encourage others to follow in their footsteps, to pursue their dreams, and help inspire female leaders of the future.”

Founder of the Women of the Future awards Pinky Lilani said: “Britain is home to a wealth of inspirational young women who are breaking boundaries in their industries. We must champion their innovation and success so we can create and showcase positive role models for future generations of aspiring women.”

Edward Daniels, Shell UK’s Country Chairman, added: “All our young people have talents; these wonderful awards showcase some of the most exceptional and enable them to act as role models to their peers. It is heartening to see young women thriving in the next-generation, science and technology sectors. We at Shell are proud to continue to be the headline supporter of such an important national programme, and we wish all candidates success in the future.”

The award winners will be announced at the Women of the Future Awards ceremony at the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square on Wednesday, 13 November, 2013.
