Stuart Tuckwood, a former Green Party parliamentary candidate, also says: “Plastic is entering the food chain. This isn’t just about saving the big whales and the polar bears. Human life on this planet depends on eco-systems and depends upon nature.”
While a lot of organisations and people are trying to work together in Cambridge, recycling rates in this country haven’t improved as much as they could.
Pippa Heylings, chair of the climate change and environment advisory committee for South Cambridgeshire District Council, also speaks to the programme.
She emphasises that it’s up to us as individuals to say no to plastic packaging, and she says that protesting makes a difference in terms of pushing politicians and decision-makers to think again.
