CAMFED appoints Chief Digital Officer

Dan Martin, who brings 20 years' experience in digital strategy and multi-channel experience development, will lead on shaping a digital landscape that supports the girls, young women and communities CAMFED serves.

CAMFED, the Campaign for Female Education, has appointed Dan Martin as Chief Digital Officer, leading its digital transformation in service to the girls, young women and communities CAMFED partners with across Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Dan has over 20 years' experience in digital strategy and multi-channel experience development, primarily in the NGO, education and charitable sector. Prior to CAMFED, Dan held director positions at two leading digital-specialist agencies, working with clients including Amnesty International, The British Library, Macmillan Cancer Support, Plan International, VSO, UNESCO, UNICEF and The University of London.

He has a passion for combining technology and behavior to create compelling experiences, drive innovation and achieve change.

He said: "I’m thrilled to be joining CAMFED at this critical time for girls and young women across sub-Saharan Africa, as we aim to tackle the digital divide in low-income rural communities, which is also a gendered divide. Part of our strategic ambition is to digitally connect young women to the resources they need to support themselves, each other, and more students in their communities. I’m also excited to be growing a team passionate about extending CAMFED’s digital reach to new and existing partners and members of our global movement for girls’ education."

One of the strategic projects Dan will be leading is the creation of a digital hub that will help CAMFED scale up and quality assure its programmes as its reach expands. It will connect and support the young women at the forefront of CAMFED's movement for girls’ education with the resources they need to mentor and support children in their communities, including self-development and skills curricula and resource materials. The hub, developed with funds from the Yidan Prize, will help CAMFED reach its goal of supporting 5 million more girls through school in just five years.

"We’re delighted to have Dan on board to lead on a transformative digital strategy that will unleash the power of our growing global movement, " said Lucy Lake and Angeline Murimirwa, CAMFED Co-Executives.

Colleagues across the CAMFED consortium extended a warm welcome to Dan, and are hugely excited about expanding its digital journey together.
