CFO hoping to be first woman to win the Mongol Derby

Next month CamStent's CFO Clare Twemlow is taking part in the Mongol Derby, the world's longest horserace, to raise money for Spinal Research.

At nearly 1,000km, the Mongol Derby is the world's longest horserace. Riders travel across the wilderness of the Mongolian steppe and about 1,000 semi-wild Mongolian horses are provided for the approx. 30 international riders. Each rider tackling the adventure changes horse every 40km, just as as Genghis Khan's messengers once did, so although while the horses only ride one section, the riders feel the full force of eight days of saddle pounding, navigating and living in the wilderness.

Clare is hoping to be the first woman to win the race.

About Spinal Research

Unfortunately Spinal Research is a very relevant charity for the horseracing industry, with many of us knowing someone who has been paralysed from a riding accident.

Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity funding medical research around the world to develop reliable treatments for paralysis caused by a broken back or neck. Every year, 1,000 people in the UK and Ireland are paralysed following an injury to their spinal cord. Spinal Research raises money to fund research into clinical treatments as well as vital basic science research.

Spinal Research have funded over 120 research projects which have achieved a number of groundbreaking changes in the field. As a result of such pioneering research, paralysis can now be treated and the medical community stands on the brink of applying therapies that will restore movement and feeling and transform the lives of paralysed people.
