Charity goes green to highlight environmental improvements

Staff at disability charity Papworth Trust took to eating bugs and making murals from recycled waste as part of a week of environmentally-friendly measures.

The charity’s first ever ‘Green Week’ was hailed a resounding success after staff were encouraged to think even more about saving electricity and paper, food waste and fuel consumption.

Highlights included the tasting of various nutritious insects, including rhino beetles, while there was another different kind of culinary experience when staff were offered a selection of food donated by Tesco which would otherwise be heading for waste.

The Trust’s OWL Centre in Sawston also got into the spirit of things by making a mural from recycled waste.

Chris Halsall, environmental facilities officer at the charity, said: “We were delighted with how staff responded to Green Week and really got into the spirit of things.

“It made everyone think about their own behaviour and we will certainly take the results on and learn lessons going forward.”
