The campaign, backed by the Cambridge News and launched by Dr Huppert, proved a huge success, easily beating the 100 target as employers showed their support by offering jobs to apprentices.
News editor Paul Brackley, who attended the event at the college, along with apprentices and employers, said apprenticeships were valuable for business.
“We were delighted to team up with Julian Huppert and CRC to back the 100 campaign, which was a really good cause,” he said.
“For years we have been told there has been only one route for young people and that is a degree - that is not the case. Apprentices gain the skills which are particularly useful in the workplace.”
Dr Huppert, who launched the campaign by taking on the first apprentice, urged employers to continue to support apprenticeships.
“It will make sure we have success for the country, for the city, for employers and apprentices - for everyone involved,” he said.
“It has been really good to work with the Cambridge News and CRC on the 100 apprentices in 100 days campaign. Degrees are great but they are not the only thing. Learning skills and developing experience in whatever way is good for you is far more important.”
