CityJet launches Amsterdam and Dublin routes from Cambridge

Cambridge International Airport has welcomed the launch of two new routes from the airport with leading European airline, CityJet, as the first flights departed yesterday (Monday) morning.

CityJet now connects Cambridge and East England with Dublin with a core twice-daily timetable and with equal frequency to Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Both routes offer a double-daily service Monday-Friday and daily at weekends, operated by CityJet’s highly economical Fokker 50 aircraft, combining excellent service and reliability with the comfort of spacious legroom, leather seating, complimentary luggage allowance and refreshments.

In addition to the direct flights, both routes have been specially configured to offer exceptional onward connectivity to worldwide destinations. Through CityJet’s close partnership with KLM, Air France, Delta and other partners, Cambridge passengers now have regular, well-timed flights not only to Ireland and Holland, but fast and frequent connecting service to cities including New York, Boston, Toronto, Washington DC, Chicago, Seattle, Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo and many more key business and leisure destinations.  What’s more, passengers connecting through Dublin Airport are now able to take advantage of the Irish airport’s US border clearance facility and proceed swiftly through US immigration en-route to the USA.

Steve Jones, Managing Director at Cambridge International Airport, welcomed the news, saying “We’re delighted to be working with such a dynamic and established regional carrier to offer these two important routes. CityJet is an award-winning airline and just like us, holds a passion for service and customer care that is second-to-none.  These new flights connect us with our top two air travel markets with class-leading frequency and convenience.  We can’t wait for CityJet to take-off from 12 May.  Ireland, the Netherlands and all those connecting destinations are hugely important to the economy of this city and region.”

Christine Ourmières, CEO of CityJet, announcing the news at an airport news conference and welcoming the arrival of a CityJet Fokker 50 aircraft with all-female crew that she described fondly as a ‘girl power airline’, commented on the airline’s Cambridge launch, “We decided to launch new routes from Cambridge as we saw a unique opportunity for success, particularly with our strong presence in both Dublin and London already. We know that the market has the demand on the route and we know that we can provide vital access to these communities. Cambridge fits our model of service and regional airports as well, serving those communities for both business and leisure.”

The new CityJet passengers will travel through Cambridge International Airport’s newly refurbished terminal, featuring new facilities, including a business lounge, Costa Coffee, complimentary Wi-Fi and lounge-style ambience.  The airport is located only three miles from Cambridge city centre and offers on-airport car parking and good public transport access. It is also close to all major road networks meaning regional centres such as Peterborough and Ipswich are reached within an hour.

Direct flights can be booked online at www.cityjet.com from today, whilst long haul connecting flights will be on sale soon via travel agents and partner airlines.
