Community Lottery set to raise over £30,000 for grassroots causes in first year

Some of the causes already registered with the Cambridgeshire Community Lottery

The Cambridgeshire Community Lottery is celebrating a successful first six months since launch, with more than 80 local good causes now signed up and raising vital funds for grassroots projects across the county.

In its first half year, the lottery has already awarded over £2,000 in cash prizes to local players and is on track to raise more than £30,000 for community causes in its first full year.

The weekly lottery enables residents to support the organisations they care about most, with 60% of every ticket sold going directly to local charities, voluntary groups and community organisations.

Local causes feeling the benefit

Participating organisations are already seeing a meaningful impact. Mick Pescod , Founder of 3 Pillars, Feeding the Homeless told us:

“We joined the Cambridgeshire Community Lottery six months ago and are already on track to raise £3,000 in our first year. The lottery helps us expand our support for senior citizens, vulnerable families, and homeless individuals across the district. It’s making a real difference.”

This sentiment reflects the growing enthusiasm among local groups, who value the lottery as a simple, cost-free, and sustainable way to boost their income.

A milestone worth celebrating

Michael O’Toole, CEO at Cambridgeshire Community Foundation, the charity behind the lottery, said:

“Reaching over 80 signed-up causes in just six months is a fantastic milestone. The early fundraising figures show how much potential the lottery has to strengthen local organisations and support the services our communities rely on. We’re thrilled to see so many causes benefit already - and this is only the beginning.”
