Cambridge City Council is supporting the Carbon Trust and Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) in hosting the Green Business Fund event for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) at the Guildhall on Wednesday 23 May from 9am.
During the morning, those attending will receive training from the Carbon Trust on subjects including:
- Understanding and reducing energy bills
- Major areas of energy consumption including heating, lighting, equipment and insulation
- Accessing grants of up to £5,000 for energy saving equipment in the workplace
During the afternoon session PECT will give a presentation on their Business Energy Efficiency (BEE) programme.
The BEE programme provides SMEs with free on-site energy audits and reports to identify cost-effective energy efficiency measures. Following this, they can choose to apply for grants of up to £20,000 to cover up to 25% of the cost of their chosen energy-saving measures.
Cllr Rosy Moore, Executive Councillor for Environmental Services and City Centre, said: “As part of our wider Climate Change Strategy, we are very keen to help local companies identify the energy-saving steps they can take in their workplaces.
“In doing so they can save money on their own energy bills, help reduce carbon emissions in Cambridge, and in doing so help tackle the effects of climate change.
“I am sure that anyone attending the free workshop at the Guildhall will gain some good advice that will benefit their organisation, their employees, the wider community and the planet.”
