The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) is the national qualifications awarding and accreditation body in Scotland, working with the Scottish Government's Learning Directorate.
The creation of new National Qualifications includes the writing of a huge number of policy, mandatory and guidance documents to support teachers and lecturers with the implementation of the new qualifications, for example: Course and Unit Specifications; Course and Unit Support Notes; and Assessment Support packs. All of these documents have been edited to SQA's exacting standards of house style, consistency and plain English.
Through SQA's Editorial Services Procurement Framework , Cambridge Publishing Management Ltd (CPM) has worked with SQA's in-house editors to provide additional support to this programme of work. Most recently it has helped them meet their April 2013 deliverables by editing the Unit Assessment materials for two National Courses – English as a Second or Other Language (ESOL) and Latin.
After CPM's T Department had reconfigured one of its Macs to run as a PC (no mean feat!) so that the team could work using SQA’s Windows-based online ‘team collaboration software’, Quickr, three solid weeks of on-screen editing got underway. This involved working on large, complex Word documents, 6,000 to 12,000 words long, which featured multiple tables and graphics, with a high degree of technical skill being required to ensure that the final Word document was accurate throughout.
Scope of the project:
Project management; on-screen copy-editing; on-screen proofreading; online delivery of styled Word files.
