A presentation at this year's H/WExpo hardware developers' conference will explore the hardware/software divide in many projects that can lead to unnecessary delays in shipping products.
H/WExpo will take place at Cambourne, near Cambridge on 27th and 28th April.
Chris Simmonds from software consultants 2net will present "10 Things Hardware Engineers Can Do to Make Software Development Easier", a talk that draws on the experience of the speaker gained while working on a wide range of projects. The talk will identify ten particular pain points and suggest how they can be avoided.
"Hardware development can be a tough business, with a lot of crucial decisions to make that relate to the overall functionality and performance, power usage, heat dissipation, longevity and reliability and budget limitations," said Chris Simmonds.
"However, with so many issues to juggle, the choices made during the hardware design phase can sometimes bring about later concerns for software developers. This might be because the chips chosen do not have adequate device driver support, or it might be that the estimates of the amount or memory and storage are too low. Or, it could result from failing to fit ports to support debugging. I will be presenting the software developers perspective, hoping that hardware developers in the audience will find it constructive and informative."
Covering topics such as memory technology, touch technology, circuit design, ASIC and FPGA design, test equipment, display technology and reference design platforms, HW/Expo is free to attend for hardware developers and technical managers.
