Representatives from leading coding and marking specialist Domino have been working with class teams from Newton Primary School in Eltisley to build two Goblin Kit Cars.

Six Domino engineers helped the children over a series of 17 planned two-hour sessions, working towards the Greenpower Education Trust’s regional Race Day which took place at Goodwood Motor Circuit last month.

‘The Gathering of Goblins’ saw 82 teams of nine -11 year olds from 57 Primary schools from the UK, Spain and China compete in three ‘on track’ events during the day, including a slalom, drag race and chicane sprint event. The Newton Primary School teams finished in 13th place overall which was a great achievement.

Carl Reynaud, Hardware Development Director at Domino said: “It has been fantastic to engage with pupils over the months and every session was different as we never know what to expect. We all ended up learning lots of new stuff – engineers included!”

In addition to Domino, the project was also sponsored by Avnet (overalls sponsor), Music Magpie (bodywork), Macfarlane (bodywork) and The Rotary Club of St Neots St Mary’s (GoPro sponsor).

The Greenpower Education Trust aims to advance education in the subjects of sustainable engineering and technology for young people. Since it was established in 1999, Greenpower has worked with over 500 schools around the UK.
