2015 is the official UN International Year of Light and in February 2015 light will take centre stage in Cambridge again, courtesy of the e-Luminate Cambridge Festival.
The inaugural festival took place in 2013 with the vision of using Light Art in the city as a platform to raise and explore sustainability issues. The organisers now launch a call for artists to submit inspiring and thought provoking proposals which involve energy efficient technologies.
Now in its third year, the Festival focuses on the central role of light in the modern world and celebrates its global importance. It has established a reputation for its ambitious programme and attracts thousands of visitors to Cambridge to see Art and innovative Technology coming together against the unique backdrop of the city.
Co-Founder Hugh Parnell, Chairman of Cambridge Cleantech, has brought Juliet Bowmaker on board to work with Artistic Director Ross Ashton, renowned for his amazing projections on King’s College.
Juliet has a long standing background in the visual arts having founded Byard Art, the King’s Parade gallery, and more recently she has been engaged in the heritage sector at Gainsborough’s House in Sudbury, Suffolk. Festival Curator, Juliet, said: “Next year’s theme is ‘kinetic’ and we are particularly interested in collaborations which show a multi-disciplinary approach and have high artistic quality.” Submissions are welcome from individual artists, organisations, creative practitioners, designers, creative companies or any collaborative combination and are to be received by 30 June 2014.
