Erica delivers her winning chocolate coins to classmates as Cambridge celebrations continue

The creative schoolgirl who won The Cambridge Building Society’s chocolate coin competition has seen her design turned into reality as she proudly handed out the tasty treats to her schoolmates.

Vaughan and Joanne, Customer Engagement Team Members from The Cambridge, visited Exning Primary School on Tuesday to present Erica with her delicious coin and then helped her deliver the coins to every class, where Erica was greeted with smiles, cheers and applause from her peers

Erica, 9, impressed the judges with her design - which shows The Cambridge logo being lifted above houses by birthday balloons - to win society’s chocolate coin design competition to help mark its 175th anniversary.

Natasha Allwood, Erica’s class teacher at Exning Primary School, said:

“It was such a special experience to see Erica share her design with everyone. The children were so excited, it was a lovely moment for the whole school.”

The Cambridge will be awarding £1,000 to the school to help fund a new outdoor numeracy project and pupils can look forward to a visit from The Royal Mint Museum as part of Erica’s prize – which also included £175 being deposited in a new savings account with The Cambridge.

A limited run of Erica’s chocolate coins is now available in The Cambridge’s 13 branches for its members.

Carole Charter, Chief Commercial Officer at The Cambridge Building Society, said:

“Hearing about the excitement at Exning Primary School as Erica shared her winning design with her friends is a real highlight of our anniversary celebrations. Her creativity and enthusiasm perfectly capture the community spirit we value at The Cambridge.

"It’s been wonderful to hear how much the children enjoyed the coins, they look fantastic, tell a lovely story and taste great too! Our members can pop into their local branch to try them for themselves.”

The chocolate coin design competition formed part of The Cambridge’s 175th anniversary celebrations – a year dedicated to giving back, inspiring creativity, and making a difference in the community.

To mark its anniversary, The Cambridge pledged to donate £175,000 to good causes, expanded the innovative Rent to Home scheme, hosted a Making The Difference Conference to bring together businesses and good causes, and has held celebrations across its branch network.
