Free fun for children and families at SummerDaze 2016

A summer of fun for school aged children and families is on the way, thanks to Cambridge City Council’s Children and Young People’s Participation Service (ChYpPs), which is putting on a packed programme of free SummerDaze activities.

The five week SummerDaze programme kicks off next week (25 July) and runs until 26 August, promising something for everyone, with activities ranging from den-building to costume-making and getting crafty with recycled materials.

Nearly all of the activities will be held on parks and open spaces and most of them focus on making the most of the great outdoors, the natural environment, recycling and taking part in new, fun and challenging play.

Activities will also take place on the ChYpPs community play boat which will be moored at Jesus Lock on Jesus Green or at Water Lane.

Five Big Wednesdays will bring a festival feel to proceedings with fun for all the family and the chance to take part in music, arts, face painting and sport.

Feedback Fun sessions will offer sport and arts activity but also give children the chance to feed back on what’s good and not so good about their local area.

Cllr Richard Johnson, Executive Councillor for Communities, said: “There’s really no reason to be bored this summer with such a brilliant programme of activities for children and their families.

SummerDaze is ideal for trying something new, sharing fun experiences and making new friends and it’s free!

“The whole programme, including Big Wednesdays, is a highlight of the summer calendar, so I hope lots of children will make the most of their summer holidays in the company of our excellent ChYpPS team.”

As well as working with other council teams, including sports development, to put on the SummerDaze programme, the ChYpPs team has also collaborated with University of Cambridge Museums, Cambridge Fish Preservation and Angling Society and Historyworks.
