Is Functional Programming the next big thing?

As organisers of FP Days (October 24-25: Murray Edwards College, Cambridge), the UK event for the Functional Programming community, Software Acumen thinks FP (functional programming) is the next big thing in software development.

Software Acumen writes:

We've watched the community grow over recent years which first inspired us to organise an FP focussed conference.

Now in its third year, we thought we'd let you decide if FP is the up and coming arm of development or not. We have put together a 25 session programme for anyone interested in or already practicing FP.

This year's FP Days programme has a great range of sessions for beginners to seasoned practitioners. It's a great chance to try out a new FP language or two with experts in that language ready to guide you through. We have 6 hands-on sessions for those who want to try a new language:

F#: Developing F# Mobile Applications in the Cloud
Haskell: Hands-on Haskell Introduction
Clojure: My first Clojure webapp: An introduction to Clojure web development & Hands-on Logic Programming with core.logic
OCaml: Getting started with (real-world) OCaml
Erlang: Functional Embedded Programming on the Raspberry Pi

We also have four great keynote speakers - Bodil Stokke, Philip Wadler, Robert Virding and Cambridge's own Sam Aaron.

As usual ticket prices increase as the event approaches. As we are Cambridge Network Members we've created a 10% discount code for our fellow members: CN10
