Runners raising funds for Caring Together Charity will be putting their best foot forward at this weekend’s TTP Cambridge Half Marathon.
Five members of Caring Together staff – John Platten, Lizzie Hindler, Ruth Young, Alice Longden and Ella McKenzie – will be heading out on the testing 13.1-mile course around the city on Sunday.
They will be joined by six representatives from The Chase Care Home, Huntingdon, and parent company Connaught Care – as well as kind-hearted local resident Tim Callington – in aiming to stride their way to vital funds to support our work with unpaid carers.
Caring Together’s Alice and Ella have been documenting their journeys to the Cambridge Half Marathon start line with regular video updates on social media.
Alice said: “I’ve never done such a physical challenge, and every mile I run during training and the race itself will be for all the selfless carers, who deserve recognition.
Ella added: “Every mile I run is for the young carers whose strength inspires me daily. Supporting Caring Together means helping those who care for others find the care and support they deserve.”
This is also the first time Caring Together have had support from a corporate partner for a challenge event, with The Chase and Connaught providing a team of amazing fundraising athletes.
It follows on from The Chase raising £1,945 for Caring Together from a special auction evening last November.
Domonic Bird, Connaught Group Sales Development Manager, commented: “I work with a lot of charities and organisations, and Caring Together have been so welcoming and do such amazing work. I have been able to interact with those they help and it’s so good knowing the money will make a difference.”
Meanwhile, digital marketer Tim Callington (right) said he had been inspired to run for Caring Together as: “It’s a great local charity that makes sure people doing their best to care for loved ones are never alone.”
Caring Together Senior Fundraising Manager Laura Price said: “We are so grateful to every single one of our runners, who have been training hard in all conditions to be in peak shape to tackle the Cambridge Half Marathon for our charity.
“They really have been going the extra mile to help support unpaid carers in the local community and we wish them all well this weekend.”
