The BioJS community, led by Manuel Corpas, Project Leader at TGAC, in partnership with genomics start-up Repositive.io, will bring together researchers and bioinformatics developers with an interest in data visualisation as well as SMEs, Big Pharma and industry applying BioJS for their customer needs.
BioJavaScript (BioJS) is an open source bioinformatics project that provides reusable JavaScript components for visualisation of biological data.
The BioJS community is a registry of available functionality and a community of developers and scientists wishing to share, develop and reutilise code. Its importance and impact to the bioinformatics community is driven by the prominence of JavaScript as the dominant web language, together with the need for biological projects to represent, share and interpret data.
Dr Corpas said: “We expect this BioJS event to bring together some of the greatest scientists in biological visualisation from around the world. Indeed, this is one of those occasions where artistic creativity and scientific enquiry come together to spark great ideas."
The BioJS conference aims to find new JavaScript developers who are interesting in becoming a part of the BioJS community and want to contribute to the BioJS registry, and source businesses that could benefit from applying BioJS to their industry. Furthermore, to develop BioJS’s collaboration with the Galaxy Project regarding the integration of BioJS into Galaxy. To highlight this integration, a BioJS hackathon will take place at the event on 4 July.
Galaxy is an open, web-based platform for data intensive biological research. It allows researchers to perform, reproduce, and share complete analyses and very popular amongst scientists around the globe.
TGAC will also be taking part as one of the main sponsors at the Galaxy conference (GCC2015) hosted by The Sainsbury Laboratory in Norwich, from 6-8 July.
