How was 2012 for marketers in the Eastern Region?

Brand Recruitment's recently launched marketing salary survey for 2012/2013 has uncovered some interesting trends from the results.

Brand currently specialise in marketing and PR recruitment across the Eastern region but have now expanded to cover Berkshire and Oxfordshire. The company says: "We have had a very successful and busy year here at Brand Recruitment with a particular highlight being named winners for ‘Best Regional Agency’ for the second year running at the Marketing and Advertising Recruitment Awards 2012 (MARA).

"In the marketing world, 2012 also proved to be a very exciting one with the Diamond Jubilee as well as the Olympic and the Paralympic games creating a buzz for much of the summer and providing marketers with a distraction from the unstable economy."

But how did 2012 fare overall for marketers in 2012?

The survey saw a drop in marketing salaries generally but showed that out of all the industries the survey looked at, the health and pharmaceutical sector tended to pay the highest salaries (9.7% above the average £43, 670 salary for a Marketing Manager). This particular industry proved to pay well across the board for marketing focused roles especially for those in Brand/Product Manager positions. This raises an interesting point about the success of the health and pharmaceutical sector, are we as nation becoming more interested in this industry as we look to improve our health and fitness? Is this why this sector is doing so well?

In comparison to last year salaries within the FMCG and retail sectors have dropped over the last 12 months, (-3.2% for a FMCG/Retail Brand Manager). This could be due to the high number of candidates that are keen to work in this sector, meaning the FMCG/retail employers can offer lower salaries and still attract quality candidates to work for them.

The survey also found that there is still a large gender divide in regards to senior level roles with men holding 57% of Director level roles in the region. On the other hand, the less senior roles have a female majority.

The survey generates many questions for the forthcoming months of 2013: which sectors will triumph for marketing roles and will there still be such a strong gender vs. role divide?

The full marketing salary survey is now available to view on the Brand Recruitment website.
