'Laughter as a catalyst for change'

‘Laughter as a Catalyst for Change’ is the title of the University of Cambridge's 12th Annual Disability Lecture.

The lecture will be given by Jess Thom and will be held at 6pm on 19th March 2015, in the Fisher Building at St John’s College.  The lecture is organised jointly between the University’s Disability Resource Centre (DRC), the Equality and Diversity section and St John’s College.  The lecture is chaired this year by Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, the Vice Chancellor.

The lecture is an opportunity to hear Jess talk about the often misunderstood neurological condition, Tourettes Syndrome, which causes her to say ‘biscuit’ up to 16,000 times a day. Performing and writing are transforming her experience of Tourettes, as well as challenging the perceptions of audiences. She will discuss the power of humour and art to create change, her experience at University and the importance of the Access to Work and Disabled Students’ Allowances schemes.

The lecture is open to all, the venue is fully accessible to disabled people. The lecture will be captioned and a BSL interpreter will be present.

Booking opens today (9th February 2015) and will be available here  http://csf2015jessthom.eventbrite.co.uk
