More than 2,600 students take the next step

Anglia Ruskin University students will be joined by five special guests at graduation ceremonies in Cambridge this month.

Anglia Ruskin’s annual graduation ceremonies at the Corn Exchange will bestow certificates on more than 2,600 students who will also be inspired by honorary degree recipients who are being recognised for their contribution in their respective fields.

The five guests are; pioneering biomedical scientist Neil Bentley OBE; novelist and broadcaster Professor Rebecca Stott; Norah Al-Ani, Director of Cambridge Rape Crisis Centre; Professor Michael Thorne, musician and former Vice Chancellor of Anglia Ruskin (pictured); and George Pippas, former Mayor of Cambridge.

There will also be around 7,500 guests attending the ceremonies, which run from Monday15 October until Thursday 18 October, and organisers are expecting about 1,700 bottles of fizz to be drunk as graduates toast their success.

Professor Iain Martin, Vice Chancellor of Anglia Ruskin University, said: “This is a wonderful time of year as we celebrate our students crossing the stage and officially taking the next step in their lives.

“It is particularly pleasing to be able to bring these ceremonies into the heart of our vibrant city of Cambridge, sharing our joy with the population as a whole, and it is always great to see so many happy and proud faces.”
